The celebrated day of love is almost here! Now you may not think Valentine’s Day is all that great. You may feel it’s a manufactured holiday designed to trap you into insincere and obligatory expressions of love. And I would not disagree with you. There is some truth to that. The only thing I would offer is that anytime is a good time to celebrate love.

If you don’t like being compelled to gift your loved ones chocolate or flowers or something even more elaborate, then gift them with your time. Share a poem. Make their favorite meal or give them a foot rub. And it doesn’t have to be on February 14th. How about the week before? Or maybe the month after. The point is, ideally, expressions of love aren’t on one single day. But just as birthdays are placeholders for the years we’ve been here on the planet, Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to express our love to those in our life that make it worthwhile. There’s really no downside to expressions of love.

One sure way to make Valentine’s Day a little more festive is to decorate. It doesn’t have to be a lot. Some pretty flowers (local, please) or a fun heart decoration is all it takes. Or maybe, this year you could add a little bunting to your Valentine decor. If that sounds like a good idea, you’re in luck! I have just the thing. My pretty Valentine bunting is sure to add a little romantic ambience to your festivities.
