The joy of giving – 12 Months of Abundance

No one has ever become poor by giving.
– Anne Frank

The joy of giving

Generosity is one of those “laws” of the universe that doesn’t seem to make sense logically. It might seem hard to do when living paycheck to paycheck, but being generous, no matter how much or how little you have, creates abundance. You don’t need look far to hear how an act of generosity was returned tenfold. From the endorphin release of helping someone in need to literal rewards that happened moments after giving, there are countless stories of how giving gave the giver so much more than they what they gave.

Benevolence is both rewarding and contagious. Acts of generosity create joy for both giver and recipient because compassion just feels so good for everyone involved. And you don’t need to have money to be generous to others. In fact, the things that don’t cost money, like your time and energy, love and compassion, or your knowledge and wisdom are all far more valuable in terms of worth. So this month I thought we could look at just a few of the ways giving creates joy and abundance.

Generosity is humbling

Generous people are often humbled by the needs of others. Getting to know someone who needs something from you that they can never repay is an opportunity to understand struggles you know nothing about. Generosity helps open your heart and mind to see the needs of the world.

Giving creates kindness

Being generous creates a domino effect. It breeds kindness, friendships, a sense of purpose, and a form of wealth money can’t replace.

Generosity also opens your eyes to kindness that comes from all sorts of places. If you pay attention, you’ll see that people are actually giving all the time. Giving their time, their resources, their smiles, and whatever someone needs in the moment.

Ways you can give

Being generous doesn’t have to be about money. Here are a few ideas for giving that are simple and easy:

Donate gently used items to a nonprofit organization
Tutor a student or mentor a child
Provide foodstuffs or meals for a food pantry
Babysit for a single parent

Give it away

Your generosity is part of a solid abundance mindset; what you put out truly does come back. Generosity creates a synergy that boomerangs back to you, and by giving you actually create more. After all, it truly is more joyful to give than receive.

Finally, to help you remember how simple it is to create love and abundance in your own life, I’ve created a pretty printable that I’d love to share!
