Stunning Sapphire is September’s Birthstone – with free printable

In my region, September has its fair share of summery days. For the most part, the weather stays nice and although we cool off towards the end of the month, we usually have beautiful, sunny days with gorgeous blue skies that remind me of this month’s birthstone, the stunning Sapphire.

September Sapphire

Sapphires are corundum precious gems and exceptionally hard, second only to diamonds. Because of their hardness, they’re also used in electronics and watchmaking. Of course, the best known color is blue, but sapphires actually come in every color but red. Gems known as ‘parti sapphires’ show two or more colors in one stone. And like rubies and diamonds, the 4 Cs (cut, carat, color, and clarity) determine a sapphire’s worth.

Sapphire Birthstones

Sapphires have long been associated with royalty and believed to hold protective powers. Folklore held that sapphires enhanced overall health and vision, and the gemstones thought to aid healing and ward off illnesses. Finally, Sapphires make a beautiful traditional gift for a 45th Anniversary.

Sapphire Energy

Sapphires offer a variety of energies, depending on the color. Use blue sapphires for self expression. Black sapphire energy aids confidence, while a white sapphire is considered protective and helpful to achieving your potential.

History of Birthstones

In recent years, Birthstones have seen a resurgence in popularity. The history of birthstones can be traced back to the first century, with descriptions found in the book of Exodus. However, the society now known as Jewelers of America chose the modern birthstones we know today, with updates to the list in 1935. The U.S. list is very similar to the UK list and is the one I’ve chosen for this series.
