Success Requires Persistence

The list of old sayings and cliches about persistence goes on and on; Slow and steady wins the race. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. If life gives you lemons make lemonade. The reason there are so many old sayings about persistence is twofold: First, it’s a key element to success. Second, persistence is hard. Something as important and difficult as persistence deserves a lot of clichéd sayings and a lot of attention. So, for this month’s motivation, let’s talk about why persistence is essential when working towards our goals.

Success is a Lifelong Journey

Many people picture success as a destination rather than a journey. They don’t realize that true success is a lifelong process, and fail to see that problems will routinely occur along the way. This means the unprepared person is stopped dead in their tracks when they encounter problems. In their frustration, they forget where they were going and why, and either abandon the goal or head back to the starting line.

Repair, Rethink, Reengage

At one time or another, everyone is affected by failure. When you anticipate the setbacks that are bound to happen on the journey to success, you’re prepared to repair, rethink, and reengage. And when you view failure as a temporary condition, you’ll also see that setbacks teach powerful lessons that ultimately make you stronger. As Gandhi said, strength does not come through winning. Instead, strength comes through failure. When you struggle and decide not to quit, that is strength.

Those who succeed understand that setbacks are opportunities in disguise. And this month’s printable is a reminder that the decision to persist is how we grow into success. Press On!
