November’s birthstone is the beautiful Citrine – with free printable
Already November
The year has flown by, hasn’t it? When I started this series, one of the birthstones that caught my eye was the beautiful citrine. At first, topaz seemed the obvious birthstone for November, but after reading up on citrine birthstones, I thought they were the more interesting choice.
November Citrine
Citrine comes in a range of colors from pale yellow to the deeper orange to brown. Sometimes misidentified as topaz because of their color, citrines are a type of quartz. And, although not considered as valuable as topaz, true citrines are rare. Because of their rarity, many citrines found on the market are actually created by heating smoky quartz or amethyst to achieve the desired color.
Citrine Birthstones
Referred to as the Success Stone by Chinese legend, citrines symbolize health and happiness. I was interested to learn that citrines are sometimes found with amethyst, and the combined stone is called ametrine. Traditionally, citrine is given to commemorate a 13th wedding anniversary.
Citrine Energy
Energetically, citrines are helpful in opening the mind to positive ideas. Used to aid sleep and digestion, their energy can also be used to overcome fear and grief.
History of Birthstones
In recent years, Birthstones have seen a resurgence in popularity. The history of birthstones can be traced back to the first century, with descriptions found in the book of Exodus. However, the society now known as Jewelers of America chose the modern birthstones we know today, with updates to the list in 1935. Added in 2012, Citrines are a new addition to the list of birthstones. The U.S. list is very similar to the UK list and is the one I’ve chosen for this series.
