I love Daisies! Includes a pretty free printable
Where innocent bright-eyes daisies are
With blades of grass between,
Each daisy stands up like a star
Out of a sky of green.
— Christina Rossetti
Season of Blooms
Summer is here and the season of blooms is in full swing. One of my very favorite are my beautiful shasta daisies. These fresh and simple flowers are such a sweet delight in the early summer garden.
Beautiful Summer Blooms
Of course, daisies come in so many beautiful colors and varieties, but for this post I’m featuring the pretty common daisy, or oxeye variety. Their fresh white blooms fit right into a cottage garden, behave themselves in a tailored border, and also mingle wonderfully with most other flowers. In my garden, they complement my beautiful coneflowers, and bloom alongside my lilies. They also frame my Rose bush with no complaints, and keep to their place (unlike my unruly cranesbill!) After their bloom, they make a pretty backdrop for other flowers. They really are a beautiful addition to any perennial border.
I love daisies
Daisies originated in Europe and Asia, and were later introduced to other regions. As members of the aster family, they’re related to sunflowers as well as dandelions. In old English, the daisy was called ‘days eye’, and it’s also where we get the term ‘fresh as a daisy’. Norse mythology associated the daisy with motherhood, love, and fertility. Traditionally, daisies symbolized innocence, purity, and cheerfulness.
