3 healthy food hacks for your busy lifestyle

If you’re anything like most people, it can be difficult to prioritize doing what it takes to stay healthy. But a healthy body and strong immune system needs to be our top priority, especially now. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that after a month of overindulgence, January sees an uptick of illnesses. So, since the new year brings fresh resolutions, it’s a good time to incorporate some healthy new habits into our busy lives.

With that in mind, I thought I’d share a few simple hacks that can help us fit healthy eating into our daily schedule. I’m listing a few hacks that work for me, but what works for you may look a little different. And even though figuring out what best suits your particular lifestyle might take some time, it can be rewarding to incorporate simple, healthy meals into your daily menu. Read on for a few tips for eating healthy, even with a busy lifestyle.

Reheat or microwave

Not all microwaved foods have to be scary mystery loafs. I’m a huge fan of leftovers (can we call them encore meals?), and a small amount of food prep can help you set aside some quickly reheated meals that are healthier than stopping at the drive-thru. For instance, you can batch cook rice (or seasoned cauliflower rice if you’re low carb or keto), then add a protein, sauce, and a few veggies to create a complete meal. You can also sear some tortillas and fill them with cheese, spinach, tomatoes and garlic for a hearty lunch or dinner. Staying open and using a little imagination can save a lot of time.

Make simple meals

Don’t underestimate the power of a simple meal. It can be as easy as trendy avocado toast. A classic peanut butter sandwich is also a simple choice, but you can level up with fresh fruit (banana anyone?) or natural fruit preserves. You can even sprinkle on some extra nuts to give it more protein and weight. And eggs always make an easy go-to meal, made even more healthy with whatever veggies you have on hand. A salad is yet another great option. High fiber meals are so helpful for your digestive system and sweep your gut of toxins to help protect against damage.

Get into Soups and Stews

A hearty stew or soup can be one of the best ways to get complete nutrition. Soups and stews simmer in their own juices for long periods and retain the majority of their nutritional content. The mix of veggies and spices not only enhance the flavor, they can add a lot of nutrition. If you make a large enough batch early in the week, you can portion it into single servings so it can be reheated after a busy workday.
