12 Ways to share goodness – includes free ‘Be the Good’ printable!
We can all share goodness
The Coronavirus quarantine has been a bumpy ride so far, hasn’t it? With staggering statistics and political spins, the topic of COVID-19 has become all consuming. As headlines scream out to us how every single thing is terrifying and forbidden, perspective is often sacrificed. And conversely, we’re told that 2-3% losses are acceptable. Really? Yes, there are many deaths per year from other well-known issues, but statistics only sound good until it’s your family member, friend, co-worker, or classmate that’s sacrificed for some perceived necessity. In my mind, the intrinsic value of a human life is incomparable to money. A life lost is irreplaceable.
There are no easy answers, but if there’s one thing that’s become apparent to me during this pandemic, it is the goodness of people. Things would be much worse without leaders that act in the public’s best interest, healthcare workers that place themselves in harm’s way, and essential workers stepping up to keep things moving, even at a reduced level.
Since I’m one of millions staying home to flatten the curve, what can I do besides stay out of harm’s way? Well, I have a few ideas. Yes, they’re simple acts, and mostly just common sense. But in this time of harsh realities, a little kindness goes a long way. I thought for this month’s Monthly Motivation I’d offer some safe (and socially distant!) ways you can still spread a little kindness. Read on for a few suggestions, then click the button below to download your free ‘Be the Good’ printable.
Simple ways to share goodness
1. Shop for someone who can’t go out.
2. Buy a gift card from a local business (bonus: makes a great Mother’s Day gift!)
3. Buy a take-out dinner from a local restaurant.
4. Donate money to your favorite charity or organization. Food banks are running low.
5. Donate blood. And if you’re a COVID-19 survivor, donate plasma.
6. Reach out to family or friends. Send a text message, or call to see how they are.
7. Ask a friend or colleague how they are, and listen to their answers.
8. Ask a stressed-out co-worker if you can help.
9. Be the bigger person and let the other guy have the coveted parking space.
10. Leave the last item on the grocery store shelf for someone else.
11. Let someone with only a few items go in front of you in the grocery store.
12. Stop to let a pedestrian cross the street or allow another driver into traffic.
It’s not hard to share goodness
Once you decide to spread a little kindness, you’ll notice all sorts of opportunities. And as a bonus, you’ll also feel happier. Scientists call this ‘the helper’s high’, since acts of kindness trigger the same endorphins as a ‘runner’s high’!
Yes, the quarantine is wearing on everyone, but please know that no kindness is ever wasted and, whether you realize it or not, you really do make a difference. You too can ‘be the good’.
